More Info

The Scheepvaartmuseum (Maritime Museum) is great fun for both young and old visitors. The museum accommodates one of the largest and finest maritime collections in the world, including paintings by Mesdag and Savery, globes and the famous maps drawn by Blaeu. Moored at the jetty is a beautiful replica of the VOC (Dutch East India Company) ship ‘Amsterdam’ (it can be visited at Science Center NEMO). In a recent renovation campaign this eye catcher’s authentic interior has been restored with a cabin, a bread, powder and cheese room and sailors’ bunks.

On 8 January 2007, the Netherlands Maritime Museum Amsterdam closed its doors for a major renovation that will take more than two years. Upon completion, the refurbished Maritime Museum will be ready for the future. The VOC ship will be opened during this renovation.
